If you are a raw foodist to be here are some tips on how to choose your food products.
All raw foodists know how difficult it is to find good or plain unprocessed food in the market today. It seems everyone has forgotten what vegetables or fruits look like originally! And no wonder, after all almost all of us eat fruits, vegetables, meat and nearly every other food product out of tins, cans or bottles these days.
However, despite this sad turn of events a number of stores still continue to sell at least some raw foodstuff. If you look around for a while you are still bound to find fresh orange pumpkins, nuts, sunflower seeds in a number of green grocer’s stores. Many of them also sell what has come to be known as organic food. These food items are grown without the use of chemical ingredients (such as artificial fertilizers, pesticides etc.) and are therefore a healthier option if you mean to eat them raw. If you are finicky about buying fresh food, look around for a farmer’s market.
Stuff at the farmer’s market tends to be less refrigerated than those available in your local vegetable markets. Thus their freshness is, usually, guaranteed. In case you have reasonable amount of gardening space available you could also try yourself growing some vegetables. This way you will be satisfied about the freshness of the ultimate product.
A number of vegetables such as tomatoes, carrots and even fruits like strawberries are actually quite easy to grow and require very little work. You can also try and grow a few herbs, such as thyme and rosemary or even a few edible flowers to add zing to your menu.
If you are fond of experimenting with your food try and land up in the nearest Chinatown or some other such produce stand where you are likely to find different kinds of new and unknown seeds, fruits, nuts and vegetables. These will add great variety and texture to your dishes and make food a fun experience for you. Unlike vegetables or fruits, raw grains are far harder to find.
Try and search for an alternative store in your neighbourhood. Many of these cater to raw foodists and thereby have a supply of various kinds of grains. If such a store is nowhere in sight however turn to the ever-reliable Internet and simply order your grains or vegetables and watch them be delivered right to your doorstep.
One of the greatest advantages of switching to a raw food diet has very little to do with health and far more do with your wealth! That’s right, eating raw food is bound to help you save a good deal of cash. This is because most raw food materials are far cheaper than their processed counterparts.
While eating raw food make sure that you wash them carefully. Always rinse leafy green veggies in salt water. Also make sure you don’t experiment too much with your food cause the parts of a number of even edible plants and vegetables have been known to make people sick. A lot of others have also been found to be poisonous. So be careful about what you choose to eat.
