Facts about Natural and Organic Products on the Shelves.
At present, almost all the vegetables and fruits we consume have been sprayed with harmful chemical fertilizers and pesticides. As more and more people are becoming aware of this disastrous thing, the popularity of organic food and its choice as the healthier option is on a rise.
Organic food means the food are produced naturally and do not have the influence of any artificial ingredient on their growth. Thus, the organic food is deemed to be healthier and more environment friendly.
Not only fruits and vegetables but also dairy products, fruit juice and certain baked food are available in the organic range.
Organic fruit juice is a great and healthy alternative to the ones available on the market because fruit juices mean more concentrated chemicals. Thankfully, you can have your organic fruit juice in peace as it is free from all sorts of chemicals and artificial preservatives.
With the popularity of organic food on the rise, most stores are stocking them. In fact, food shops devoted to organic food are growing in number. Since the organic food is grown in small groups, free from insects and external disturbances in the lap of nature, they tend to be a tad more expensive than the food we eat regularly.
The price factor, however, is not to be worried about, since you are ensuring a healthier body and environment in the bargain. Another good prospect is that when many people choose to eat organic food, the farms supplying them would increase in number and also provide more organic food, possibly with greater range.
All raw foodists swear by organic food. They are all for consumption of food at its natural state and thus they have a lot of faith in organic food. But you must keep note of the fact that raw food and organic food are not the same thing. Raw foodists are those who completely avoid any cooked food.
There are many people who consume organic food just to avoid the harmful chemicals and pesticides, it is not necessary that they will not eat anything cooked. There are certain food items, however, which have eluded organic producers. An example of such a food item is grains, which, according to experts, is very difficult to find in its true organic form.
One of the first signs that a chosen fruit or vegetable is not organic is its size. A carrot shouldn’t be longer than 25 inches and a potato shouldn’t be of a small watermelon size.
Another sign is also size related. Look at the size of the vegetables and fruits on the shelves. If there is a significant size difference or at least a visible one, it’s a true sign that that are natural, organic products. Only the products grown using the pesticides and chemical fertilizers are of the same size; natural and organic fruits and vegetables are always more crooked and different.
Another sign that you hold in hands a natural and organic fruit is the presence of worm hole. That’s the true sign that the farmer hadn’t used any chemicals to exterminate vermin. Don’t make that face, that’s a good apple because the presence of the worm is a great indicator by the way that the farmer didn’t use any chemicals at all or for many years.
When you choose leafy vegetables take care to choose fresh leaves. Before eating them it’s best to put leaves in water with a few drops of lemon juice. An acid medium will kill the eventual bacteria and harmful microorganisms present on them.
Carrot leafs can be also consumed in salads.
Remember the simple health habits and be it organic food or not, wash before consumption. If you want to stay healthy and keep the environment safe too, you have lot of options open including adopting the raw food diet and through organic food consumption.
